The Southwest Pacific Expedition led by the Auckland Museum on board RV Braveheart is an exciting 42 day voyage with a multidisciplinary Australian and New Zealand crew. The science leg 2 will depart Noumea, New Caledonia on Thursday 27 July and arrive in Suva, Fiji on August 7. The voyage will visit Matthew, Hunter and Walpole islands (12 days, 6-7 days sampling). The expedition survey will include targeted collecting, lots of photography, fish and invertebrate traps and baited underwater videos to assess density and abundance of top predators.
A strong background in marine sciences such as oceanography, marine biology or chemistry is preferred. If diving during the expedition is of interest, a minimum equivalent of PADI Rescue Diver will be required to dive. Ambassadors need to be willing to spend time at sea in variable conditions.
