How can we remember the Battle of Passchendaele?

On 12th October 1917, at the Battle of Passchendaele, New Zealand suffered the greatest loss of life in one day in New Zealand history. The losses impacted on every town and city in New Zealand. Given the impact, how can we ensure we remember the Battle of Passcendaele?

Eligibility

The competition is open to all Year 13 students attending a New Zealand secondary school within New Zealand.

Entries must include verification from the student’s school that the student is enrolled as a Year 13 student.

Entries

Entries can be presented in any of the following forms:

  • Artistic representation
  • Essay, diary, letters
  • Music
  • Poetry
  • Short film
  • Interactive web feature

Prize

The winning student will receive an education contribution of $2,000, and along with the runner up, travel to Belgium as a member of the 2017 Youth Ambassador delegation.

How to enter

All entries must include:

  • a completed entry form, and
  • verification of enrolment and year level from your school.

Entries must be submitted by 5pm Friday 12 May 2017 to veterans.projects@nzdf.mil.nz. If you are unable to email your entry, then courier it to:
